About Us

100% Aboriginal owned, by Clarence Bruinsma (Yaegl) and Adam Byrne (Garigal/Gadigal). Bush to Bowl is a social enterprise aimed at creating a healing space & platform for First Nations people by connecting to country and their traditional foodways. We practice our culture on a daily basis by giving back to country, our mob and the wider community.

Our Mission

Bush to Bowl aims to create spaces where families and community members can engage with Australia’s native plants and traditional Aboriginal knowledge and culture.

Our Values

Bush to bowl is our way of giving back to Culture and to Country as it gives so much to us on a daily basis. We believe strongly about protecting both these spaces now and in the future.

Example of our experiences

1. Smoking Ceremony

Our smoking ceremony consists of the explanation of the smoking ceremony and the importance of this ceremony for our people and our culture. We can have this as interactive if the group wishes to participate otherwise it can be more of the explanation of the smoking ceremony.

2. Acknowledgement/ Welcome to Country

An Acknowledgement/ Welcome to country is generally experienced for big events and or moving areas and you are being welcomed to a location by a member of the community or someone who is acknowledged and welcomed by the community.

3. Incursion to Client

We can come to you and run incursions at your workplace, we can offer cooking demonstrations and look at connections with waterways and fire and land knowledge. We can focus on one topic or we can look at a number of topics and discuss the importance and significance of culture and why our culture is so strong today. Our cooking demonstration could be as simple as making Johnny cakes and infusing our native ingredients or pancakes. Otherwise we could look at doing tea tastings and making some mocktails with native infused ingredients.

4. Visiting our Nursery

We can host you at our Nursery and we can do a day of work within our Nursery learning while getting our hands dirty planting and propagating plants. This is a rough idea of what we would do at the Nursery.

Welcome to Country  Smoking Ceremony ( weather permitting)  Introductions  Morning Tea   Starting in the Garden  Propagating (suggest potting up choc lily etc and can take one home) Plant Identification  Harvesting seeds  Looking at how we harvest, and use seeds to use from plant to plate.  Lunch (Please note this is an added cost unless you would prefer to bring your own which you are more than welcome to do so.)

5. On-Country Experience (Please note a minimum of 10 participants)

Please note we have 2 on country walks that we offer. Narrabeen Headland and Manly Dam.
